7 Feb 23, 10:30 am, Triangel Open Space, Kaiserstraße 93

For this month's seminar, our speaker is:

  • Dr. Daniel Shea (Editor, Program for Research Communication): Citation Practice in Computer Security

Abstract: Citation is the foundational practice of publication. In fact, citation is the whole reason there is publication in the first place. The one use of a paper is that it advance the research, and when the paper has, it gets cited. Citation is the foundation of every current research focus and as well, of every new research focus. Therefore, researchers need to read with an eye to how and why authors are citing the ways they do. It matters a lot whether Smith et al propose or whether they attempt, and it matters equally whether Smith et al get named at all or are just [35]. This Research Seminar will demonstrate by representative papers in Machine Learning for Computer Security just what is happening on the line as authors cite the literature.
